Problem Statement: How would God of War’s axe throwing mechanics work in a fast-paced 2D action game?

Solution: In Viking: Samurai Ninja, the main character has 4 actions they can take with their axe to solve combat and environmental puzzles: Slash, throw the axe in a straight line, call the axe straight back OR teleport to the axe. The game draws inspiration from Shovel Knight and the Legend of Zelda.

Viking: Samurai Ninja was originally prototyped in 48 hours for a game jam. I then expanded the prototype to add more enemy types, puzzles, a boss fight, and local multiplayer. Solo project made in Game Maker Studio 2.
